World Menopause Day 2019: Media Release

16 October 2019

Testosterone for Women at Midlife - World Menopause Day 2019

World Menopause Day is held every year on 18 October. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness on the menopause and support options for improving health and wellbeing.

The theme of World Menopause Day 2019 is “Testosterone for Women at Midlife”. The International Menopause Society (IMS) has developed a number of resources from the Global Consensus Position Statement on the Use of Testosterone Therapy for Women, which was launched by the IMS on 2 September 2019.

“There is good evidence that testosterone therapy can help alleviate hypoactive sexual desire disorder/dysfunction in post-menopausal women” reported Australasian Menopause Society President, Dr Sonia Davison. “However, each woman needs a full clinical assessment and other factors affecting HSSD need to be identified and addressed before testosterone therapy is initiated”.

End.
