However, most symptoms of menopause can be managed with appropriate care.

A new clinical practice guideline, Management of menopausal symptoms in women with a history of breast cancer, provides evidence-based recommendations on the management of menopausal symptoms for all women, regardless of age, who have been treated for breast cancer.

Management of menopausal symptoms in women with a history of breast cancer

The guideline was developed by Cancer Australia is endorsed by the Australasian Menopause Society, Breast Cancer Network Australia, Medical Oncology Group of Australia, and BreastSurgANZ.

It includes Evidence Summaries and Recommendations based on available evidence about the effectiveness and safety of different therapies for managing menopausal symptoms in women after breast cancer. The guideline provides health professionals and breast cancer patients with information to support decisions regarding the choice of particular therapies for the management of menopausal symptoms in the context of past or ongoing treatment for breast cancer.

The guideline is accompanied by a consumer guide, Managing menopausal symptoms after breast cancer – A guide for women, which provides information about menopause and managing its symptoms.
